COURTNEY BASSETT
Hi, I’m Courtney! I have more than eighteen years of development experience with focuses in individual giving and event-driven fundraising across nonprofit organizations in the fields of art, education, and health (Whitney Museum of American Art, Colby College Museum of Art, Cornell University, University of Colorado Foundation, Muscular Dystrophy Association). Shaped early in my career by the philosophy shared with me that “fundraising is like farming, not mining”, my perspective centers on nurturing relationships that align funders’ and organizations’ philanthropic priorities, and on sustainable approaches to and solutions for service and impact.
Working in nonprofits the last two decades, I have come to understand the need for sustainability to include the individuals doing the work too. That’s where my 500 hour registered training and personal practice in yoga and meditation come into play, teaming up with learnings in management from the Master of Public Administration degree I received from New York University’s Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service in 2023.
At home in Maine, I currently serve on the Board of Directors of One Longfellow Square in Portland and on the Development Committee of 317 Main Community Music Center in Yarmouth. I have shared my time and development expertise volunteering with, and on many occasions miles hiked and run for, the benefit of Citymeals-on-Wheels, Discover Outdoors Foundation, and First Descents — organizations located in my former homes of New York City and Denver that have been near and dear to me. I have been a guest speaker on development in the arts at The New School and Foundation Center, on leading values-based culture at NYU Wagner, and on career paths in the arts and in development at my other alma mater, Colgate University.
Rosemarine Co. is the convergence of my personal and professional commitments to acting with a mission at heart and a vision in mind, and maintaining capacity — at every level — to effect positive change.
