COURTNEY BASSETT
Hi, I’m Courtney! I have more than 18 years of experience aligning philanthropic resources with organizational priorities, missions, and visions. My career in development has been comprehensive — spanning individual, institutional, peer-to-peer, and event-driven fundraising — with an emphasis on major and principal giving. My professional work has been based in large-scale, often complex and high-profile organizations (museums, higher education institutions, and a national health services, research, and advocacy organization). My related volunteer work has focused on local and community-centered nonprofits for which I have served on fiduciary and advisory boards, helped create new sources of engagement and revenue, and participated in grassroots fundraising.
Shaped early in my career by the philosophy that “fundraising is like farming, not mining,” my perspective centers on nurturing relationships and on sustainable solutions for service and impact. Working in nonprofits over the last two decades, I have come to understand the need for sustainability to include the individuals doing the work too. That’s where my 500–hour registered training and personal practice in yoga and meditation come into play, along with learnings from my Master of Public Administration degree from New York University’s Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service.
At home in Maine, I serve on the Board of Directors of Portland’s One Longfellow Square and on the Development Committee of 317 Main Community Music Center in Yarmouth. I have volunteered my time and development expertise volunteering with Citymeals-on-Wheels, Discover Outdoors Foundation, and First Descents in my former homes of New York City and Denver. I have been a guest speaker on development in the arts at The New School and Foundation Center, on leading values-based culture at NYU Wagner, and on career paths in development and the arts at my other alma mater, Colgate University.
Rosemarine Co. is the convergence of my personal and professional commitments to acting with a mission at heart and a vision in mind, and maintaining capacity — at every level — to effect positive change.
