Nonprofit Strategy + Management Consulting

Rosemarine Co. provides customized guidance on systems, processes, and capacity for development offices. Speciality areas include policies and procedures for portfolio management, campaign strategy and planning, assessing and optimizing team structures, functions, and roles, and trainings to activate leadership and volunteers for fundraising.

Philanthropic + Community Engagement

Are you looking to build community among your constituents, or to engage staff through volunteerism and philanthropy? Would you like to contribute to the local community or an organization whose mission aligns with your company’s priorities? Rosemarine Co. will advise on strategy and provide capacity for the execution of community engagement and philanthropic opportunities.

Wellness Practices

We have all heard that we can’t take care of others if we don’t take care of ourselves, but there are many obstacles to heeding this advice. Rosemarine Yoga offers skills, time, and space to breathe, move, and connect with ourselves and others through individual and group offerings such as yoga and mindfulness meditation. We will discuss recommendations for incorporating these practices manageably and regularly. One-off and recurring services are available, as is a sliding scale fee structure.

COURTNEY BASSETT

Hi, I’m Courtney! I have more than 19 years of experience aligning philanthropic resources with organizational priorities, missions, and visions. My career in development has been comprehensive — spanning individual, institutional, peer-to-peer, and event-driven fundraising — with an emphasis on major and principal giving. My professional work has been based in large-scale, often complex and high-profile organizations (museums, higher education institutions, and a national health services, research, and advocacy organization). My related volunteer work has focused on local and community-centered nonprofits for which I have served on fiduciary and advisory boards, helped create new sources of engagement and revenue, and participated in grassroots fundraising.

Shaped early in my career by the philosophy that “fundraising is like farming, not mining,” my perspective centers on nurturing relationships and on sustainable solutions for service and impact. Working in nonprofits over the last two decades, I have come to understand the need for sustainability to include the individuals doing the work too. That’s where my 500–hour registered training and personal practice in yoga and meditation come into play, along with learnings from my Master of Public Administration degree from New York University’s Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service.

At home in Maine, I serve on the Board of Directors of Portland’s One Longfellow Square and on the Development Committee of 317 Main Community Music Center in Yarmouth. I have volunteered my time and development expertise volunteering with Citymeals-on-Wheels, Discover Outdoors Foundation, and First Descents in my former homes of New York City and Denver. I have been a guest speaker on development in the arts at The New School and Foundation Center, on leading values-based culture at NYU Wagner, and on career paths in development and the arts at my other alma mater, Colgate University.

Rosemarine Co. is the convergence of my personal and professional commitments to acting with a mission at heart and a vision in mind, and maintaining capacity — at every level — to effect positive change.

Fluidity. Strength. Healing. Possibility.

Derived from the scientific name for the plant rosemary meaning “dew of the sea,” Rosemarine Co. finds wisdom and comfort in the perpetual ebb and flow of the tides, and motivation and humility in the power and immensity of the sea.

If you want to build a ship, don’t drum up people to collect wood and don’t assign them tasks and work, but rather teach them to long for the endless immensity of the sea.
